Learn to Skydive in Panama – AFF Course with Skydive Abuntos
1. PREPARATION
Your skydiving journey begins at Aeropuerto de Chame, just outside Panama City. Before your first jump, you’ll complete a comprehensive ground school covering aircraft safety, emergency procedures, correct exit techniques, body control in freefall, and parachute deployment.
2. AFF SKYDIVES
Our Accelerated Freefall (AFF) course in Panama includes 8 training jumps with USPA-certified instructors. Each jump is carefully designed to build your skills step by step. With detailed briefings, in-air instruction, and post-jump debriefs, you’ll quickly gain confidence in freefall and canopy control.
3. SOLO PRACTICE
After your instructor clears you for solo skydives, it’s time to learn to skydive on your own. You’ll complete a mix of coached jumps and solo jumps, gaining valuable experience while progressing toward your license.
4. USPA “A” LICENSE CHECK DIVE
Your training culminates with a final check dive alongside an instructor. Passing this assessment earns you the USPA “A” License, which allows you to skydive independently at dropzones worldwide and join group jumps.
5. ADVANCED LICENSES & CAREER PATH
Once you’ve achieved your A License, you can continue progressing toward higher certifications such as the USPA “B”, “C”, and “D” licenses. With experience, you can also earn instructional and coach ratings, opening the door to a professional career in skydiving.
FAQ
Why should I book directly with Skydive Abuntos?
Booking directly ensures the best prices, priority scheduling, and direct communication with our experienced team. You also get full support before, during, and after your jump.
What are the requirements to start the AFF program?
You must be in good health. Minimum age is usually 16 years (with parental consent if under local legal age). Weight and height limits may apply depending on instructor and equipment.
Do I need a tandem skydive before starting AFF?
No. Many students begin AFF directly. Tandem experience can help with confidence, but it’s not a formal requirement in USPA-based training.
How many jumps are required for the USPA A License?
To qualify, you must complete 25 freefall jumps, demonstrate all required skills, and pass both a written and oral exam, as outlined by the USPA.
What privileges does the A License provide?
With the A License, you may jump without supervision, pack your own main parachute, join group skydives, and participate in water landings (where permitted).
Is USPA membership required?
Yes. To earn a valid USPA A License, you must be a member so your progression and final application can be properly recorded.
What happens if I don’t pass a level?
Don’t worry – it’s part of learning. You’ll receive detailed feedback, additional coaching, and repeat the level until the required skills are mastered.
Can weather delay my AFF training?
Yes. Freefall training depends on safe weather conditions (wind, visibility, clouds). Jumps may be delayed until conditions are within safe limits.
What equipment do I need?
Bring valid ID/passport, sneakers or closed-toe shoes, and comfortable clothes. All student skydiving equipment is provided by the training center.
How long does it take to earn the A License?
It depends on weather, training frequency, and individual progress. Some students finish within weeks; others take longer depending on availability.
Can I continue my training at different dropzones?
Yes. As long as the dropzones operate under USPA or equivalent standards, your logbook entries and signed progression card will be recognized.
What language is the training conducted in?
We at Skydive Abuntos offer classes in English and German. This ensures clear communication during ground school and in the air.
Is medical clearance required for AFF?
A medical certificate is not mandatory for most students, but you must be in good physical condition. If in doubt, consult your doctor before booking.
Can I book video of my AFF jumps?
Yes, video recordings are available on request. Since this requires additional staff, it cannot be booked directly through the website. If you would like your AFF jumps to be filmed from outside, please contact us in advance. The fastest way to reach us is via WhatsApp – we will confirm availability quickly.
Otherwise, your video will always be filmed by your instructor for debriefing anyway. To improve your skills.
Can I go scuba diving before or after skydiving?
Yes – but timing matters. After scuba diving, you should wait at least 24 hours before making a skydive due to the risk of decompression sickness (the “bends”). This is because nitrogen absorbed during a dive can expand rapidly at altitude.
If you skydive first, you can go diving immediately afterward without restrictions.
