Tandem Skydive in Panama Step by Step with Skydive Abuntos

1. Training & Preparation
Your tandem skydive adventure in Panama starts with a short safety briefing. Your instructor will walk you through the basics of exiting the aircraft, the correct body position during freefall, and landing procedures – everything you need for a safe and enjoyable experience.

2. Boarding the Aircraft
You’ll then board our Cessna 182 at Aeropuerto de Chame, just outside Panama City. As we climb to 10,000 feet (3,000 m), you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Panama’s Pacific coastline, tropical landscapes, and the nearby mountains – the perfect start to your skydive.

3. The Freefall
At altitude, it’s time for the highlight: your tandem skydive over Panama. Securely attached to your USPA-certified instructor, you’ll experience 30–40 seconds of freefall at speeds of up to 200 km/h (120 mph). The adrenaline rush and the views of Panama City and the coastline make this an unforgettable experience.

4. Parachute Flight & Landing
At about 5,000 feet, your instructor deploys the parachute. You’ll then enjoy a 5-minute canopy flight, gliding peacefully back to the dropzone. This calm descent offers spectacular views before a smooth landing back at Aeropuerto de Chame.

FAQ

Why should I book directly with Skydive Abuntos?

Booking directly ensures the best prices, priority scheduling, and direct communication with our experienced team. You also get full support before, during, and after your jump.

Yes. Tandem skydiving is extremely safe when conducted with experienced instructors using modern equipment. Skydive Abuntos uses the latest tandem and student gear, and all instructors are highly trained USPA-certified professionals.

Anyone in good health can skydive. Participants must be at least 16 years old (with parental consent if under 18) and meet weight and height requirements. Your instructor will guide you throughout the process.

No prior experience is required. Our instructors provide a full safety briefing and training before your jump, making it suitable for first-time skydivers.

Wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. Avoid sandals, flip-flops, or loose garments. All skydiving equipment, including jumpsuit, harness, and goggles, is provided.

The full tandem experience usually takes 2–4 hours, including briefing, gearing up, flight to altitude, and the jump itself.

  • Ascend to the jump altitude (usually 10,000 ft / 3000 m) .

  • Enjoy 40 seconds of freefall at speeds up to 120 mph / 200 km/h.

  • The parachute deploys at about 5,000 ft / 1,500 m, allowing a 5–7 minute canopy glide to the landing zone.

For safety reasons, bringing your own camera or GoPro is not permitted. Your Tandem instructor has special equipment and a required additional rating for this.

Yes! Friends and family are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area.

No, we’ll provide you with special jumping goggles. For those who wear glasses, we have extra-large, special goggles.

Yes! You can also book various photo or video packages on the day of your jump. This will give you either up to 200 HD photos of all phases of the experience or a fully edited action video with music (or both, of course).

Participants should be in good general health. Certain conditions such as heart problems, severe back or neck injuries, or pregnancy may prevent participation. Always consult a doctor if you are unsure.

Skydiving is weather-dependent. Jumps may be postponed in strong winds, heavy rain, or poor visibility. Safety is our top priority.

If you are „our“ customer, meaning you booked your jump directly through Skydive Abuntos, you can cancel or reschedule your appointment FREE of charge up to 7 days before the jump.

Yes – but timing matters. After scuba diving, you should wait at least 24 hours before making a skydive due to the risk of decompression sickness (the “bends”). This is because nitrogen absorbed during a dive can expand rapidly at altitude.
If you skydive first, you can go diving immediately afterward without restrictions.

Just like our tandem jumpers, our equipment, including harnesses, fabric, and lines, is subjected to greater stress with every additional kilogram. This means that certain components of the parachute systems must be replaced sooner. Parachute fabric, lines, and harnesses are highly specialized pieces of equipment that are painstakingly handcrafted and meet strict quality standards. Each individual component is correspondingly expensive and difficult to replace. Our Instructors are paid for their work, which also includes the additional effort required for jumps with higher passenger weights. Airplanes require expensive fuel to fly. The more heavily loaded our aircraft is, the more power must be provided, and the longer the climb to drop altitude takes. In most cases, both are true, resulting in significantly higher fuel consumption, which directly leads to considerable additional costs. Finally, we have different insurance premiums for different weight classes.

The basic weight limit is 90 kg, including jump gear. We weigh each guest upon registration.

If you weigh more than 90 kg, it depends on your flexibility. If you are fit enough, you can also be heavier.

Ultimately, this can only be decided individually on-site.

Surcharge for weights over 90.1 kg:

120 USD (payable in cash on-site)
